This is what happens when I have back to back custom orders for months and months at a time. Such is life.
ANYWAY - I have relisted (not sure for how long) the Leeloo Dallas Bandage Costume in my Etsy shop.
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/59835777/leeloo-dallas-bandage-costume?ref=shop_home_active_1">COSTUME!</a>
I'm in the process of deciding what to do with some old stock I have and new things I never listed and the like. I will be back.Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11068221010287527817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24857020.post-42762082726709342392014-04-04T21:17:00.001-07:002014-04-04T21:17:22.458-07:00A few recent creations.<div><br></div><div><br></div>I'm really busy right now with custom orders. Here's a good tip for all you sewers out there - instead of spending money on special weights to hold down fabric as you cut, visit your local dollar store. This massager (about the size of my hand) makes a perfect weight for holding down my fabric. In fact, I have a bunch of them. They won't snag anything and store stacked on top of each other. Plus, if you get stressed, you can give yourself a massage.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgELydPFBUxo24SKC-zcR4_zNztSaSoROVVhshcx3m0OwpBOKJbNFU6Kv_nnLauqpVOGqAcXqqMUTaSqrR-SsL6jQsuAxdFPGQUFlnwHqbMbYSQwHywgN52zSuJKfL5Y-4KgDzX/s1600/massager.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgELydPFBUxo24SKC-zcR4_zNztSaSoROVVhshcx3m0OwpBOKJbNFU6Kv_nnLauqpVOGqAcXqqMUTaSqrR-SsL6jQsuAxdFPGQUFlnwHqbMbYSQwHywgN52zSuJKfL5Y-4KgDzX/s320/massager.jpg" /></a>Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11068221010287527817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24857020.post-32046386695061667842014-02-19T13:53:00.001-08:002014-02-19T13:53:44.270-08:00Dress<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Here's the dress inspired by Downton Abbey! She came with a very simple face up, so I decided to try redoing it. I looked at tons of tutorials, and took the plunge today. It was terrifying. The process, I mean. Anyway, I managed to do something simplistic, but better than the original face. I also gave her glass eyeballs. Now to figure out how to loosen the elastic a bit...<div><br></div><div>Before:</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6PXgI_IYaW7Z_vp_k0CrXcFVAm-0VWKMQhaoltW1Co11e0EMIK-vGVJUKiJvQjwDbGDMNMi07oabuSc0PI_gy7QrB83snw4D90cPGCDh-pXMwwsIh4cEwXUM5kDK1AItj-rAc/s640/blogger-image-1058067039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6PXgI_IYaW7Z_vp_k0CrXcFVAm-0VWKMQhaoltW1Co11e0EMIK-vGVJUKiJvQjwDbGDMNMi07oabuSc0PI_gy7QrB83snw4D90cPGCDh-pXMwwsIh4cEwXUM5kDK1AItj-rAc/s640/blogger-image-1058067039.jpg"></a></div>After:</div></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6YLKg_o7TZPR1d0JyTtROVfhnvYR-SeiU58VliHy5mY6VkP0Pv7F3MsiEqWveaZrbSE-fjH3WObkpTATP9f1ZMe7Tx43zVqm7TclRhHJuL9JXjWODH33ial00Tp-a58WcQwjf/s640/blogger-image--2063314327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6YLKg_o7TZPR1d0JyTtROVfhnvYR-SeiU58VliHy5mY6VkP0Pv7F3MsiEqWveaZrbSE-fjH3WObkpTATP9f1ZMe7Tx43zVqm7TclRhHJuL9JXjWODH33ial00Tp-a58WcQwjf/s640/blogger-image--2063314327.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11068221010287527817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24857020.post-85615902191953919542014-01-19T12:43:00.001-08:002014-01-19T12:43:47.969-08:00Face-up MayhemI just got ResinSoul Ya in the mail yesterday. I ended up getting two degrees, BFAs in Metalsmithing and Art History. I probably had enough credits for a painting degree, too, but my dean said that was all I get. ;) I really wanted to go into fashion design as an undergrad, but decided to study all the arts I could get my hands on. I tried clay, drawing, painting, glass blowing, etc. Don't be afraid to try new things or things that scare you, or listen to people who try to dissuade you from your true passion. These people most likely are projecting their own baggage upon you.
Some of the things I made turned out, um...badly...and some came out really well. The experiences I gained help me to this day! I went on to grad school to study the history of clothing and textiles, which also gave me a great background when creating things.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! This week, now that my kids are back in school, I've been catching up on custom orders and thinking about how I want to move forward with Indiscretion. As some of you may have read in my previous posts, I was revamping my website. I did finish that before the new year, but custom orders and the holidays took over my time. I coded the site exactly how I wanted it, but it takes a little longer to list things. And my items to list now have become huge! I also still have things on Etsy, but I may move them. Etsy has changed in the last few months. Many of my items are one of a kind, but I will remake most things upon request. The problem I'm having is that it seems Etsy wants to encourage me to offer everything in different styles and colors and I'm not comfortable with that. However, who knows, that may change, too. Simpler items are easier to recreate.
Anyway,l thank you for sticking with me this far. I am still waiting for my ball jointed doll in order to play around making clothing for it. If this works out, I may expand into other doll sizes.
Again, thanks and Happy New Year!

I am going to be participating in the Santa Fe Fashion Week this upcoming Saturday, if you are in the area!
Also, I've now finished overhauling my website and the product pages are so much better and easier to navigate. I've got a few costumes up and will be adding more stuff over the next few weeks. To see what I mean: <a href="http://www.indiscretion.us/costumes.htm">http://www.indiscretion.us/costumes.htm</a>
While I'm getting ready for the show and adding more stuff to my website, have a coupon for either Etsy shop! 50% off of non-custom items over $15.00 - use code OCT13 - <a href="http://indiscretion.etsy.com">http://indiscretion.etsy.com</a> and <a href="http://hauteindiscretion.etsy.com">http://hauteindiscretion.etsy.com</a> - coupon is good until Oct. 28th, so you have one week!Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11068221010287527817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24857020.post-79460309592657896912013-09-20T13:34:00.001-07:002013-09-20T13:35:00.914-07:00Featured Artist: Matty CipovMy website edits are almost done! I'm really excited about the new format. It has taken a really long time because the original code I had for all my products was flawed. All the pages are now updated with the new format, and I will be putting NEW products up there, and costumes, especially for Halloween!
In the meantime, I've had the pleasure to get to know Matty Cipov on Vine these last few months. It wasn't until recently that I found out he has an Etsy shop. His work is AMAZING! He draws the most amazing characters, including zombies! How can you go wrong with zombies, I ask you?

Of course, when I took a break, I got sick. I'm recovering from Strep throat right now, but that won't stop me! I had started some cute Halloween stuff and now that I feel better, I can get back to it. Also, I really am going to list things on my website. I was going to use Zen Cart or StoreEnvy and link the pages, but for now I'll stick with using a PayPal cart. Unless people really hate that.
Speaking of Halloween, I've had a lot of inquiries, but I have to be honest ~ the sooner you decide the better~ I had soooo many last minute costumes last year that I barely was able to finish them in time. So be thinking about that and let me know if you have any questions~

I was busy with a lot of sewing, a new puppy (and bunny), and who knows what else. Usually I am very efficient with these things, but I forgot about goody bags. His party was at an indoor kart racing place that has arcade games. I decided, instead of getting icky candy and plastic toys that will break within one second, I'd make pouches and fill them with quarters for the arcade.
Originally, I used <a href="http://www.creativedish.com/2011/08/make-an-easy-felt-coin-pouch/">this</a> tutorial to make these pouches:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFyKpm36SKn56z9u-3juuOp9byZHZEdG3vS640EVLcACa7XchoqIHsNO16-9q3VtH_DC8w0yCoYy9qo74iiKjev68iLWSjqjaPtjypjk0dRzbAeCsuyVPZEdRv1dY88abNFGi3/s1600/pouches.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="150" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFyKpm36SKn56z9u-3juuOp9byZHZEdG3vS640EVLcACa7XchoqIHsNO16-9q3VtH_DC8w0yCoYy9qo74iiKjev68iLWSjqjaPtjypjk0dRzbAeCsuyVPZEdRv1dY88abNFGi3/s200/pouches.JPG" /></a></div>
But then I thought I could maybe take these a little farther. The pouches (above) are based on an 8" circle. I wanted to make something a little bigger, and a little tighter at the top. The drawstrings in the pouches I made originally are an inch apart. I made these new ones with a half inch space between the holes, 1 inch from the edge of the circle, not the petals.
First I traced a circle from a 10" embroidery hoop. I originally used a marker that disappears with water, but it does not work well on the felt.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuc4Fnsn3nECtCncYIaGxYg6wv_Rn0oVWln1i9fkc34OmKdC6DGMHZOKgrWhz48oyQURgzm61aWrAX1ejH9a90CCn8g4E5IdSumFItD3BFB49AbPB8mxtRY-RSIt8fI5gZpeSx/s1600/feltpursetrace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="127" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuc4Fnsn3nECtCncYIaGxYg6wv_Rn0oVWln1i9fkc34OmKdC6DGMHZOKgrWhz48oyQURgzm61aWrAX1ejH9a90CCn8g4E5IdSumFItD3BFB49AbPB8mxtRY-RSIt8fI5gZpeSx/s200/feltpursetrace.jpg" /></a></div>
Next, I measured an inch from the circle, and a half inch between dots. These dots are where the holes will go for your string, cord, etc., to tie the bag closed. I had to switch to a permanent marker here, and it bled a little, so make sure to use a marking tool that will show up but won't screw up your design!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IPUomLZXYXNGJ550tS_jqjFq_uJY4kvf66u2r-GBgH1tIDBK0BteKwM6GDRdGGsc2uxWpCCPfGMdI1fJBKpYEQwLccvTMSebmdQC_Le0eYeFJcOuIu1XUFiRPW0i7Obzo0Lw/s1600/feltpursemarkings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="150" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IPUomLZXYXNGJ550tS_jqjFq_uJY4kvf66u2r-GBgH1tIDBK0BteKwM6GDRdGGsc2uxWpCCPfGMdI1fJBKpYEQwLccvTMSebmdQC_Le0eYeFJcOuIu1XUFiRPW0i7Obzo0Lw/s200/feltpursemarkings.jpg" /></a></div>
Then I took a petal template I had and traced petals, close together, above the edge of the 10" circle I originally traced.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGOD2XbPyPFsgx4L-2DBxVh6jAnFclYvcLR4CFCOeuZvT9jnkT8igA4Kl7w7ziDu6kuxM9ViIi5fuMNbFaadkdgbL1yzmbEbvj_iiwfDiMfb35iKMYH9-sQbhQCN9IwxmlRAWa/s1600/feltpursepetals.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="150" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGOD2XbPyPFsgx4L-2DBxVh6jAnFclYvcLR4CFCOeuZvT9jnkT8igA4Kl7w7ziDu6kuxM9ViIi5fuMNbFaadkdgbL1yzmbEbvj_iiwfDiMfb35iKMYH9-sQbhQCN9IwxmlRAWa/s200/feltpursepetals.jpg" /></a></div>
After tracing the petals, I cut out the design, using smaller scissors around the intricate petals.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2mlab2Yo30PGVics_kTUYmrNAhMATWpcdcptOGk6c1quOfiVv3POVCZ_emjatWbxKa0A9bxtiQY7jTz-fTVl-puy9CSl2rdl-uuKgEId1E9ofF1-FggzQBSg96yKH23iTu8lu/s1600/feltpursecut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="150" width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2mlab2Yo30PGVics_kTUYmrNAhMATWpcdcptOGk6c1quOfiVv3POVCZ_emjatWbxKa0A9bxtiQY7jTz-fTVl-puy9CSl2rdl-uuKgEId1E9ofF1-FggzQBSg96yKH23iTu8lu/s200/feltpursecut.jpg" /></a></div>
To make the task quicker, I used a hole punch to make holes for my ribbon. I used a punch with a bigger hole than I needed, so you can see the holes better.

I took 1/8" orange ribbon and weaved it through the holes I made previously. I could have used cord, lace, etc. to put through the holes, as long as I can tie it.

They would be cute as party table favors! This example, of course, is very simple, but one could embellish the petals, sew in a contrasting lining, however far your imagination takes you...

Also, we have acquired a poodle puppy (I'm allergic to dogs, so the poodle is the least allergenic), a tiny bunny - for the lonely guinea pig we have, and another Robo hamster to replace the one that died. So that's one dog, a bunny, a guinea pig, and two hamsters. It's crazy, I tell you! The puppy is more like a cat, the bunny and guinea pig will cram themselves into their hidey castle together so they look like one animal with two heads, and the hamsters run around like maniacs in their Habitrail...photos at the very bottom of this post.
This is a coat I made from scratch - it was a present - this guy wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a jacket, so it was a challenge for him to get correct measurements on the sly, and he did his best.

Here are a few customs - one coat is a recon - the original coat is on the left. There is a bustle style denim skirt I made from scratch, and a skirt that was white, which I dyed in an ombre style, to match a shoe.

A Back To The Future Jacket from the second movie made from scratch...the wrist and waist decoration came from a designer who works with latex molds. I attached them to the jacket. Pretty cool, huh?

I wanted to show you some of the costumes I made for Halloween. A couple of customers were kind enough to send me photos. I know sometimes they forget, but when they do, I really appreciate it!!!:
